Christmas, a perfect time to enjoy the Sevillian tile route

Seville is a unique place in the world for many reasons: the light, the monuments, its traditions and its people.

It is a special city where each festive date is lived with passion and with great intensity, and one of those unique and different dates to live in our city is Christmas.

There are thousands of things you can do at Christmas in the capital of Andalusia, and one of them is to enjoy the tile altarpieces that are scattered throughout the city of Seville, delicious and with a great history behind them.

If you don't know what to do these days in December, we invite you to discover these Sevillian works of art.

Sevillian tiles in the temples

In the world-known temple of El Cachorro, there is a wonderful tile showing the theme of The Marriage of the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph, made in 1973 at the Montalván Factory by the artists José Escolar and Juan Antonio Rodríguez.

Another wonderful altarpiece made of Sevillian tile is in the Parroquia de las Flores y San Eugenio in the Barrio de la Macarena, made by Cristóbal Rodríguez Fernández.

If you walk along Calle Trajano, you have to visit The Mystery of the Annunciation in the Capilla de los Luises, made by Gustavo Bacarisas in 1918.

Not only the Sevillian churches house artisan samples of works of art on tile, but other monuments such as the Reales Alcázares.

Inside this wonderful Sevillian enclave you can enjoy the altar of the Oratory of the Catholic Monarchs, made by Niculoso Pisano in 1504, which shows the arrival of the Archangel Saint Gabriel and the Visitation of Isabel, the Virgin Mary's cousin.

Also the subject of this theme is the Mystery of the Nativity, the modeled and glazed pottery that houses the parish of San Gil. This work is anonymous, but not the Nativity that appears on the front of the convent of Santa Paula. This ceramic was made by Piero della Robbia's team of artists in the year 1504.

And how can we forget the Plaza de España, that wonderful monument created by Aníbal González for the 1929 Exhibition.
